Official Statement: President, Dr. Linda A. Davis Leaving to Pursue New Opportunities
The Board of Directors of the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) recognises the extraordinary contributions of Dr. Linda A. Davis, who will be leaving office as President on 20th December 2025 after a tenure marked by institutional advancement, innovation and national relevance. As BTVI prepares for this transition in leadership, the Board remains fully committed to the continuity of the institution’s mission and strategic direction and has therefore invited Dr. Davis to continue to support the institution through this leadership transition. Details regarding interim leadership and the process for identifying a successor will be communicated in due course.
Dr. Davis joined BTVI in May 2021 as Vice President of Academic Affairs and was appointed to the position of President in May 2023.
We thank Dr. Davis – the institution’s first female President – whose term at the helm will be remembered as an era of great achievement. During her tenure, Dr. Davis played a pivotal role in reshaping BTVI’s standing locally and internationally and in redefining the role of technical and vocational education in The Bahamas.
As President, Dr. Davis has been forward thinking and consistent in her ability to “Chart the Course for Success”. Among her most historic achievements was leading BTVI to international accreditation by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) – a first in the nation’s history. This accomplishment has validated BTVI’s programmes against international quality standards, thus strengthening its global credibility and positioning the institution as a serious contender among regional and international technical and vocational training institutions. Accreditation was not merely a win for BTVI, but a national triumph one that reflects Dr. Davis’s unwavering commitment to quality assurance, high standards and educational excellence.
Dr. Davis’s leadership has been truly transformational, shaping both programmes and policies. Her legacy is not just institutional, but national, having raised the bar for what technical education in The Bahamas can and should be.
Under Dr. Davis’s leadership, the foundation was laid for a new strategic plan, casting a clear vision for the future and defining the institution’s core identity. Her commitment to innovation also led to the expansion of programme offerings in key areas aligned with workforce needs such as digital technology and renewable energy. Building on BTVI’s vision and strategic direction, Dr. Davis advanced efforts aimed at modernising the curriculum with a focus on relevance and responsiveness to industry needs, equipping graduates not only with certificates, diplomas and degrees, but with practical, real-world competencies. She laid the groundwork for a comprehensive review and revision of programmes of study and more coherent degree audits, with an emphasis on data-driven decision-making. This is in addition to strengthening the internal operational processes of the Academic Affairs Division and the way it interfaces with other Divisions and Departments to support learners along their respective trade pathways.
Additionally, Dr. Davis championed the launch of a new BTVI website and it was under her watch that student enrolment at BTVI increased significantly, culminating in Fall 2025 with an historic show of national interest in technical education. Approximately 1,448 new students enroled at BTVI, constituting the largest intake in its history – for a total student enrolment from 4,443 in 2021-2022 to 5,836 in 2024-2025.
It was during Dr. Davis’s tenure that for the first time in BTVI’s history, a clean financial audit was achieved, a credit to the teamwork nurtured under her stewardship. Additionally, Dr. Davis was instrumental in informing the framework for negotiations for two major union agreements which yielded improved terms and conditions for BTVI’s valued workers. Furthermore, she served on and co-championed the work of BTVI’s Campus Master Plan Committee resulting in the Government of The Bahamas’ grant of acreage on which the New Providence Main Campus will be constructed.
The Board is deeply grateful for Dr. Davis’s unwavering commitment and we applaud her significant contributions to BTVI. Her distinguished legacy in higher education is inextricably linked to the institution.
On behalf of the entire BTVI community – faculty, staff and students – the Board of Directors extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Davis for her exemplary service and enduring contributions to BTVI and the advancement of technical and vocational education throughout The Bahamas. We will continue to chart the vision for which the stage has been set: a transformation of regional magnitude to BTVI as a hub for technical and vocational education and training throughout the Caribbean.
