Eligibility for Admission
Our professional development programmes, courses, and activities are open to everyone. Eligibility requirements apply only to programmes or courses that lead to certification or licensure.
How to Apply
To apply for a Professional Development Programme, Course, or Activity:
- Upload a completed Professional Development Application Form via the BTVI website to the Admissions Department.
- Include the following:
- Valid Passport: Copy of the relevant pages showing expiration date, personal details, and date of birth, or a valid Certificate of Identity.
- National Insurance Smart Card: Copy of the front and back.
- Application Fee Receipt: Payment confirmation for the non-refundable fee.
Successful Completion
Students who successfully complete a professional development programme, course, or activity will receive a Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Certificate of Participation.
Certification or Licensure
Courses leading to certification or licensure are governed by the granting institution.
- Theoretical Components: Covered in our programmes or courses.
- Practical Components: Completed with the granting institution.

Professional Development Units (PDUs)
Participants earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) instead of academic credits. A PDU tracks the time devoted to instruction or instructor-directed engagements.
Calculating the PDU
- Formula: Total contact minutes ÷ 60 = Contact Hours.
- 10 Contact Hours = 1 PDU.
Why Are PDUs Important?
- Document time spent learning a specific skill or trade.
- Provide evidence of staying current in a field.
- Help track professional growth.
- Meet periodic certification requirements
