Appointment of Kevin Basden as Acting President


The Board of Directors of Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) has appointed Kevin Basden as Acting President. Mr. Basden’s appointment takes effect as of 21st December 2025 and will continue until the anticipated appointment of a President in Spring 2026. An active Presidential Search is currently underway.


Mr. Basden, who has served as Vice President of BTVI since February 2024, is a Professional Electrical Engineer. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and Harvard Business School, bringing more than 40 years of experience in the electrical industry, including over 20 years at the executive level. His distinguished career includes progression from Engineer-in- Training to General Manager of the Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC), now Bahamas Power and Light (BPL). Highly respected in his field, he later served as a Consultant and Advisor to the BPL Board.


Further, Mr. Basden has contributed to national development through service on several key committees, including the National Disaster Committee, the National Energy Policy Committee, the Energy Sector Reform Task Force and the National Development Plan Committee.


Mr. Basden previously served on the BTVI Board from 2012 to 2017 and as Chairman from July 2017 to October 2021. He also served as a Consultant and Advisor to the Institute between June 2023 and February 2024.

BTVI, and thanks him for assuming this role at a pivotal stage in the Institute’s growth.
