TVET at BTVI

TVET at BTVI

Welcome to technical and vocational education and training (TVET) at BTVI. Our mission is to provide applied education that transforms lives and communities and enables individuals to be globally competitive and economically independent. Through the collaboration of our Deans, Heads of Departments and Instructors, we ensure students are guided from where they are to where they aspire to be. No matter where our programmes or courses are offered, we provide transformative teaching and learning experiences that equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their academic and career goals.

Our programmes are offered through 6 trade departments: Business; Information and Communications Technology; Electronics and Media Technology (under the Business, Information Technology, Electronics and Media Technology Deanship); Construction and Mechanical (under the Construction and Mechanical Trades Deanship); Beauty and Fashion (under the Creative Trades Deanship). Each department is administered by a Head of Department who reports to a Dean who reports through the Associate Vice President and Vice President who reports to the President.

Construction and Mechanical Trades

The Dean of Construction and Mechanical Trades reports to the Vice President. The Dean provides academic leadership and strategic oversight for BTVI’s construction, mechanical and automotive programmes. Assisted by two Heads of Departments – one for New Providence and one for Grand Bahama and the Family Islands – the Dean is responsible for curriculum review and development, supporting students and faculty and ensuring programme relevance in alignment with industry standards.

Business, Information Technology, Electronics and Media Technology

The Dean of Business, Information Technology, Electronics and Media Technology reports to the Associate Vice President Academic Affairs. The Dean provides strategic academic oversight and ensures the quality of teaching and learning in these trade areas. The Dean oversees programme review and development, supports students and faculty and ensures that curriculum aligns with best practice and changes in technology. Currently, the Dean is supported by two Heads of Department - a Head of Department for Business Trades and a Head of Department for Information and Communications Technology.

Creative Trades

The Office of Creative Trades is home to Beauty Trades and Fashion Trades. This Office oversees academic programmes and faculty support in BTVI’s beauty and fashion trades. In the absence of a Dean of Creative Trades, the office is led by the Associate Vice President Academic Affairs who is supported by the Head of Department for Beauty Trades and Head of Department for Fashion Trades. These Department Heads provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of their respective programmes and are responsible for academic quality, student and faculty support and ensuring that programmes align with industry standards and evolving trends.

General Education

General Education at BTVI supports academic and professional success across all programmes and encompasses foundational courses including Mathematics, English, Computer Literacy, Student Success and Psychology/Humanities. While General Education does not operate as a standalone office, it falls under the direct oversight of the Associate Vice President Academic Affairs. Academic leadership is provided by a Head of Department for Mathematics and a Head of Department for English who also has oversight for the Humanities and Psychology Gen Ed courses.
