The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) recently formed a Media Program Committee (MPC) to drive the strategic initiatives for its Media Technology program.

One of the committee’s priorities is to assist BTVI with the process of building a state-of-the-art production facility that will serve the entire student community.

The newly formed committee will focus on driving the key elements of the Media Technology program strategic plan. Co-Chair of the committee and BTVI Chair of Electronics and Media Technology, Delano Archer, confirmed that the committee is comprised of BTVI representatives as well as a cross section of individual professionals lending their expertise to narrow the skills gap in the media technology area.

The committee members include BTVI Chair of Electrics and Media Technology,  Delano Archer; BTVI Media Technology Instructor, Alexia B. Coakley; AIFOS Design & Consulting’s Project Manager Sophia R. Walker; ZNS’s Assistant General Manager of Sales and Marketing, Sean Adderley;Y98.7 radio personality and former Tribune Media Group, Operations Manager, Anthony Coakley; Founder and Creative Director at Hilltop Designs, Shavanti Smith; BTVI Electronics and Media Technology Administrative Assistant, Samekia Saunders and Public Hospitals Authority’s Chief Photographer in Corporate Communications, Zhivago McPhee.

 \\The major aim of the Media Technology program at BTVIis to help students systematically master the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and methods of media technology to meet the demands of an ever-changing market.

The hands-on program seeks to develop students to be on the cutting edge of the creative and competitive field of media technology.  They are exposed to a blend of theoretical and practical training in video, television and audio production. Intake into the program began in 2017.

BTVI offers a certificate, diploma and associate of applied science degree in Media Technology. Among the courses offered are Television Production, Interactive Media Production, Intro to Broadcasting, Broadcasting Transmission, Video Production and Audio Production, with career options including Audio or Video Technician, Videographer, Audio Editor and/or a Producer.

The Media Tech program is one of over 40 programs offered at BTVI.
