Associate of Applied Science Degree Programme
- Construction Technology
The Associate of Applied Science in Construction Technology provides entry-level training in residential and
commercial contracting. Students receive instruction in all aspects of residential construction: from
infrastructure building — plumbing and electricity — and foundation/masonry to interior and exterior finishing.
The programme includes technical courses with significant hands-on experience and on/off campus cooperative
education experiences thanks to our cooperative learning partners such as local general and specialty contractors
and construction companies. This programme develops a skilled workforce based on the needs identified by local
construction businesses/owners as recommended by the Programme Advisory Committee. Full-time students can complete
the programme in two years.
Diploma Programme
- Auto Mechanics
The Diploma in Auto Mechanics prepares students to enter the workforce as an auto technician trainee, a vehicle
service writer, auto supplies salesperson, or motor engineer’s assistant. Students take a variety of specialty
courses including engine, diesel and braking systems, steering and suspension systems, electrical and electronic
systems and automotive air conditioning. Students are required to complete an internship. Full-time students can
complete the programme in approximately four semesters.
Certificate Programmes
- Auto Collision Repair
- Carpentry
- Electrical Installation
- Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning (HVAC)
- Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning (HVAC)
- Maintenance Technician
- Welding
The Certificate in Auto Collision Repair is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students to enter the
workforce as an auto collision repair technician trainee, an auto estimator’s trainee, or an insurance adjuster
trainee. Students take courses such as Structural Repair I & II, Refinishing I & II, Oxyacetylene Welding, AC/DC
Circuits and Steering/Suspension. Full-time students can complete the programme in approximately four semesters.
The Certificate in Carpentry is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student to enter the workforce. In
addition to Carpentry I & II, students take courses in blueprint reading, roof framing and trade estimating.
Thanks to the support of our many partners, students acquire hands-on training and experience by completing an
internship or cooperative work experience.
The Certificate in Electrical Installation prepares students to enter the workforce. Courses include Electrical I
in which students learn the fundamentals of electrical wiring and the basic skills used by electricians and
Electrical II in which students acquire the skill sets of semi-skilled electricians. Students review local
inspection requirements and other regulations governing electrical wiring in The Bahamas and are able to select
and specify electrical devices and materials and apply the relevant code rules pertaining to the field
installation. Students also take courses such as AC/DC circuits, blueprint reading and trade estimating and
complete an internship or cooperative work experience.
The Certificate in Heating, Ventilation & Air-conditioning prepares students for entry-level employment. Courses
include HVAC I and HVAC II in which students acquire the skills needed to service, repair and replace mechanical
parts in window units as well as central and split system air conditioning units. Students also learn about allied
systems and their environmental effects, including refrigerant physical properties and applications, compressor
and evaporator systems, international agreements for refrigerant management and atmospheric effects of
refrigerants and controls. Students take courses such as AC/DC circuits, blueprint reading and trade estimating
and complete an internship or cooperative work experience.

The Maintenance Technician Certificate prepares students to be proficient in property operations by exposing them
to various disciplines in building maintenance. Students take courses in heating, ventilation and air
conditioning, tile laying, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and drywall and complete an internship. Upon
successful completion of this programme, students can seek employment as room technicians, general maintenance
technicians, and shift engineers. Full-time students complete this programme in one academic year.
The Certificate in Welding is a series of courses designed to prepare students to enter the workforce as a
certified welder. Students take courses in Welding Fundamentals, Oxyacetylene Welding, Positional Shield Metal Arc
Welding, Blueprint for Welders and Steel Structures and Fabrication. Full-time students complete the programme in
approximately four semesters.
