President of the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI), Dr. Robert W. Robertson, announced that a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been established with New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
The recent signing ceremony was held on the NEIT campus. In attendance were BTVI representatives Dr. Robertson; Dean of Information Technology and Online Education, Anthony Ramtulla and Dean of Construction and Workforce Development, Alexander Darville, along with NEIT’s Executive Vice President, Scott Freund; Senior Vice President and Provost, Douglas Sherman and NEIT Trustee, Phillip Kydd.
The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is twofold. The agreement outlines opportunities for BTVI students to attend NEIT with advanced standing and scholarships. The MOU also establishes a framework for additional cooperation between BTVI and NEIT.
The university was established in 1940 as a trade school and has had a connection with BTVI for many years.
“We have welcomed many Bahamian students in the past and look forward to offering new students the opportunity to learn and grow with the renewed MOU,” said Mr. Freund.
Meanwhile, the MOU will include faculty training and research opportunities.
Dr. Robertson said the renewal of a long-standing agreement is important as NEIT offers a number of technology-based career and professional trade degree programs.
“The MOU provides options for our students to consider numerous career paths that are in high demand, both within the country and globally,” he said.
Mr. Kydd pointed out the importance of career readiness in the post-pandemic environment. He highlighted the synergies that can be built between NEIT and BTVI that will prepare students for the reality of the new world of work. He noted that the team is ready and planning the next steps to build on the MOU.
Meanwhile, BITVI is exploring courses related to information technology and digitization, as well as professional trades. Dean Ramtulla is convinced that the MOU opens very important and positive options for students.
The Memorandum of Understanding became effective as of December 2, 2021. Students interested in pursuing their post-secondary education at New England Institute of Technology should contact [email protected].
