The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) New Providence Alumni Association’s President, Kadren Moxey-Carey, recently discussed the importance of preparation and the power of education with ninth grade students of her alma mater, D.W. Davis Junior High School.

Several D.W. Davis Junior High School alumni, recently stepped back in the classroom of their once senior high school to share success tips, including the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute’s (BTVI) New Providence Alumni Association President, Kadren Moxey-Carey.
Speaking on the importance of preparation and the power of education with ninth graders, the 1999 graduate, underscored that although times have changed, all elements of the classroom experience like learning and laughter remain.
Ms. Moxey-Carey was invited to speak as a part of the school’s ‘Back to D’ initiative. Throughout the day, several alumni working in various fields spoke to both male and female students about the possibilities that access to education allows them. The students were encouraged to look beyond their current realities and prepare for a successful future.
During her session, Ms. Moxey-Carey took the opportunity to share that BTVI offers degrees, certificates and diplomas related to many interests and talents. She suggested that TikTok lovers should look into the Media Technology program, those with an eye for detail, may wish to consider Fashion Design, while others could explore options ranging from Office Systems to Construction Technology.
D.W. Davis Junior High School’s Principal, Nicolette Brown and Vice Principal, Carolyn Roberts, praised the alumni for taking time out to share their stories and success tips with the students. They hope to have the ‘Back to D’ initiative at least twice per year during the fall and spring terms, especially as more alumni step forward to participate.
