BARBERING

Program Description:

The Barbering program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student to enter the workforce as a barber stylist. The skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be acquired by students are found in the course syllabi. This program is 15 weeks in duration.  The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Certificate in Barbering is awarded upon successful completion of the program.

MEDIA TECHNOLOGY

Program Description:

The certificate in Media Technology program is a blend of theoretical and practical training that prepares students to pursue a career in the media industry. Students will develop a strong foundation in the skills and knowledge of the industry.

Carpentry

Cisco Certified Network Associate

Program Description: 

The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificate validates the ability to install, configure, operate and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN.

Drywall Installation

Electronics and Cable Installation

Program Description:

 

The certificate program in Electronics and Cable Installation provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install and test computer network cables. This program is designed to prepare students for employment as a cable installer, cable tester, cable technician, or to provide supplemental training to persons previously or currently employed in these occupations. More specifically, students will be able to use the various types of precision test equipment found in general use throughout the electronics industry for the purpose of analyzing, troubleshooting and repairing electronic circuitry. The program also prepares students for CompTIA NetworkPlus certification.

Program Description:

The Esthetics program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student to enter the workforce as a self-employed esthetician, an esthetician’s assistant, a make up artist’s assistant, or a cosmetics salesperson.  The skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be acquired by the student are found in the course syllabi. This program is 20 weeks in duration.  The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Certificate in Esthetics is awarded upon successful completion of the program.

FASHION DESIGN PRODUCTION I

Program Description:

 

The Fashion Design Production I program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student to enter the workforce as a self-employed garment maker, a machinist, or garment industry occupations involving altering, pressing, and pattern making. The skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be acquired by students are found in the course syllabi. This program requires a minimum of 5 semesters.  The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Certificate in Fashion Design Production I is awarded for successful completion of the program.

Information Technology Entry Level

Program Description: 

The Information Technology Entry Level Certificate program provides a thorough understanding of the computer hardware and software and prepares the student to enter the Information Technology field department at the entry-level. This program prepares the student for A+ Essentials and A+ Practical applications certification. This program also provides students with some Microsoft application software skills.  The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute awards a certificate in Information Technology Entry Level upon successful completion of the program.

Maintenance Technician

Program Description:

The Maintenance Technician program is designed to prepare students to be proficient in property operations as it will expose them to various disciplines in building maintenance.  Persons completing this program can have careers as room technicians, general maintenance technicians, and shift engineers in service properties.  This is a full-time program for a period of one academic year.  The Bahamas Technical & Vocational Institute Certificate in Maintenance Technician will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.

Masonry

Program Description:

The Masonry program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student to enter the workforce at an entry level.  Students will receive instructions about masonry techniques inclusive of materials used, mixing mortar, laying masonry units, block and brick making and block laying. OFFICE ASSISTANT

Program Description:

This program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student to work in a business office environment.  Students are required to have BJC grades C or above in Math and English to enter the program. The skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be acquired by the student are found in the course syllabi.  The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Certificate in Office Assistant is awarded for successful completion of the program.

Painting & Decorating

This program is designed to develop skills, knowledge and attitudes that are needed for entry level painters. This program will give students the basic skills requited to paint any building.  It will instruct them on the many changes in the manufacture of coating materials.  The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Certificate in Painting and Decorating will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.

Program Description:

This program is designed to develop skills, knowledge and attitudes that are needed in the plumbing trade.  Students will learn the various types of plumbing fixtures and their functions.  They will also learn the proper installation, maintenance and servicing of fixtures; pipe and fittings required in drainage waste and ventilation (DWV) and water distribution systems. The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Certificate in Plumbing is awarded upon successful completion of the program.
