Student Grievance

A Grievance Policy is in place to give consideration to matters that students cannot informally resolve and bring a fair and speedy resolution to situations that may occur on BTVI's campus.

Policies and Procedures

Attendance: Each school maintains its own student attendance policies. However, individual instructors also have the authority to require attendance.

Honours List

To be on the Honours List, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, an acceptable attendance record and meet all programme credit hour requirement.

Manager's List

To be on the Manager’s List, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75, a perfect attendance record and meet all programme credit hour requirement.

Academic Excellence

The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute recognize excellence by rewarding students who meet specific GPA and attendance requirements. These students will be included on the Manager’s List and/or the Honours List in recognition of their achievement.

Academic Advisement

Department Heads follow their students’ progress and provide advice and guidance (academic advisement) during the semester related to their academic progress.

Grading Policy

 BTVI uses an alphabetical grading system.  A letter grade is given for each course taken.  Each letter grade denotes a certain level of achievement in a particular course as follows:

Minimal Pass





Examination Policy

All exams will be taken during the designated examination schedule. Exams dates are noted on the BTVI Student Calendar. Students who are unable to write the examination at the scheduled time must have, one or both of the following:

• Physician’s Medical Certificate
• Approval by the instructor, prior to the exam week
• Students will be informed of when they will be able to reset the exam.

Attendance Requirements

BTVI is preparing students for the world of work where attendance and being on time are critical for success. Attendance is taken into consideration for grade points in each class. Students are required to report to classes and be on time. Students must be equipped with all of the necessary tools, books and materials as indicated during orientation for them to be successful in their classes.

Academic Requirements

All students must have an accumulative term grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 or above. Should the GPA fall below a 2.00, the student will be placed on academic probation. The student will be required to meet with the Retention Counselor (who works closely with the Heads of Department and instructors) to determine a plan to improve the student’s GPA.
