General Information

The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute offers certificate programmes, diploma programmes and Associate of Applied Science degrees. Courses students are required to complete satisfactorily for an occupation are listed in a programme of study. A programme of study consists of a sequence of core and general education courses, and electives when applicable. Students are required to fulfill all the requirements of a programme of study to be eligible for graduation.

Each course is assigned a number of credits. A credit is a standard unit of measurement of student learning in an educational institution. A BTVI student who completes 45 hours of learning in a particular course receives one credit.

In the classroom, one lecture credit is equivalent to two clock hours; while one lab credit is equivalent to three clock hours. Outside of class time, students are expected to spend two clock hours in preparation for one lecture credit and one clock hour in preparation for one lab credit.
