Transfer of Credit and Exemption Policies

All transfer of credit, exemption and challenge testing requests must be submitted to the Registrar's Office during the admissions period prior to registration. No more than 25  percent of the total required credits in BTVI programme will be approved for transfer of credit and exemption.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT
Applicants, who have completed post-secondary coursework from a recognized institution, including BTVI, may apply for transfer of credit. However, credits obtained from Professional Development Courses are not transferable. Transfer of credit is not an automatic process and it is granted when the following conditions are met:

• The courses taken meet the established standard of BTVI and have essentially the same content as the BTVI courses they replace
• A completed Exemption and Transfer of Credit form and official transcripts have been submitted to the Registrar's Office
• A minimum grade of "B" has to be earned for each course to be transferred

The Admissions Officer, in consultation with the programme Head of Department, will decide whether the credits may be accepted for transfer. Credits transferred will show on the students' transcripts. Grade points are not assigned. BTVI reserves the right to test the proficiency of students for course-work to be transferred.

EXEMPTION
BTVI grants exemptions for the following National and International exams:

• Bahamas General Certificate of Senior Education (BGCSE)
• General Certificate Education (GCE)
• Pitman
• RSA
• City & Gilds
• SAT's

Bahamas Junior Certificates (BJC) are only accepted in the case of the Tech Prep Mathematics and English courses.

CHALLENGE TEST
If a student believes that they are competent in a particular area however, does not possess a certificate or transcript to confirm. They may challenge a course by taking a challenge exam. The students must submit an Exemption/Transfer of Credit application, pay $50.00 (non-refundable) per exam and obtain a minimum test score of 70 percent.
